The Art of Balance (Or How I Lost a Whole Morning to the Internet)
Originally posted on February 12, 2025, from my previous blog. A humorous reflection on how a casual internet scroll derailed my morning plans, the art of bouncing back, and why balance feels like an ever-shifting target.
You ever have one of those days where you wake up with the best intentions, ready to conquer your to-do list, only to look up and realize you’ve somehow time-traveled four hours into the future—with absolutely nothing to show for it? Yeah, that was me today.
It all started with a simple plan: check in for a few minutes on this Space I’ve been working on, maybe toss around some ideas, and then get on with my day. Fast forward to 10 AM, and I’m still glued to the screen, fully invested in conversations that, while entertaining, have contributed zero to my productivity. I mean, who needs focus when you can spiral into a niche discussion about—well, honestly, I don’t even remember. It was fun, but in that what-just-happened-to-my-morning kind of way.
Now, contrast that with yesterday. Yesterday, I was on it. I deep-cleaned my office (shredding old papers like I was in a spy movie disposing of classified documents), tackled the bathroom (still not fun, still necessary), and even got in a 30-minute workout. My Keto streak is alive and well, and I made a cheesy spinach and mushroom omelette that, for a brief moment, made me forget how much I love bread.
And then there’s today. A masterclass in distraction.
In my defense, the internet is designed to keep us engaged. If SmartLess has taught me anything (besides the fact that Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes should narrate my life), it’s that a good conversation can make you lose all sense of time. But also, maybe I should aim for a little more structure.
Thankfully, I managed to salvage the day by knocking out all the challenge activities for Discrete Math (nerd flex) and squeezing in another treadmill session. So, was it a total loss? No. But could I have used my morning better? Absolutely.
The takeaway here? Balance is a moving target. Some days, you’re locked in and crushing it. Other days, you’re Jason Bateman midway through a story that has no real point but is still wildly entertaining. The trick is knowing when to rein it in.
Now, someone, please remind me to log off before I accidentally lose another morning. 😅
(Update: Posting this at 7 PM before I hop in the shower. Then it’s me time—chilling in bed with AP Bio on Netflix because sometimes, the best way to recover from a chaotic morning is to laugh at someone else’s bad decisions instead of my own. 😆)
